Why MOXI Has Become One of My Favorite Laser Treatments for All Skin Types

By Jozelle Diaz, NP-C | Founder of Revivaluxe Aesthetic & Wellness

One of the biggest misconceptions I still hear in aesthetics is that laser treatments are not safe for darker skin tones. For years, many patients with melanin rich skin were either told they were not candidates for lasers or were left fearful after hearing stories about hyperpigmentation and complications. While it is true that not every laser is appropriate for every skin type, advances in laser technology have changed the way we can safely treat skin today.

That is one of the reasons why MOXI has become one of my favorite treatments in practice.

Over the years, I have treated patients with a wide range of skin tones and concerns, including Fitzpatrick Skin Type VI, and consistently, patients love their results. What makes MOXI stand out is that it allows us to improve overall skin quality in a way that feels natural, safe, and customizable without requiring aggressive downtime.

Unlike traditional resurfacing lasers that can be more intense, MOXI is a non ablative fractional laser designed to stimulate collagen production and cellular turnover while keeping the treatment gentle enough for many different skin types. Instead of dramatically changing the skin, it works by improving the skin’s overall health and appearance over time. Patients often notice brighter skin, smoother texture, more even tone, and a healthier glow overall.

One of the things I personally love most about MOXI is that the results never look overdone. People usually cannot pinpoint exactly what changed, but they notice the skin looks refreshed. Makeup tends to sit smoother, pores appear softer, and the skin simply looks healthier. In today’s aesthetic world, where many patients are looking for natural results rather than dramatic changes, treatments like MOXI fit perfectly into that approach.

For patients with deeper skin tones, finding safe and effective laser options can feel frustrating. Melanin rich skin naturally carries a higher risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation if excessive heat or aggressive settings are used. Because of this, provider experience and proper treatment selection become extremely important. MOXI’s technology allows treatments to be customized based on the patient’s skin type, concerns, and goals, making it one of the more versatile laser options available for a wide variety of patients when performed appropriately.

That being said, laser treatments should never be approached as one size fits all. Proper consultation, skin preparation, settings, and aftercare all play a major role in achieving safe outcomes, especially for Fitzpatrick IV through VI patients. In my experience, patients with melanin rich skin often become some of the biggest advocates for MOXI because they finally experience a laser treatment that improves their skin without feeling overly aggressive.

For lighter skin types with visible sun damage and pigmentation, I also frequently combine MOXI with BroadBand Light, also known as BBL. While MOXI focuses heavily on collagen stimulation, texture, and skin rejuvenation, BBL specifically targets pigment and discoloration caused by years of sun exposure. It can be especially effective for sun spots, freckles, redness, uneven pigmentation, and overall photoaging.

Together, MOXI and BBL create a very comprehensive skin rejuvenation approach by improving both skin quality and discoloration simultaneously. Patients often notice brighter, clearer, smoother looking skin while still maintaining natural results.

I think one of the biggest shifts happening in aesthetics right now is that patients are becoming less interested in looking dramatically different and more interested in looking healthy, refreshed, and confident in their skin. Not every patient wants aggressive downtime or dramatic procedures. Sometimes the goal is simply healthier skin that ages well over time.

That is exactly why MOXI has become such a staple treatment for me. It is versatile, customizable, safe for many skin types, and most importantly, patients genuinely love their results. Healthy skin will always be one of the most powerful forms of rejuvenation, and treatments that support long term skin health in a natural way are becoming more important than ever.
